The 2008 Peace One Day
Concert took place at the Parr Hall on Saturday 20th September. After the
success of last year's concert, this year's proceedings continued in the same
vein, and presented another memorable and enjoyable occasion, celebrating music making in
the cause of peace.
Special guests of the evening
were Shirley Keane, and accompanist Frances Kelleher,
who
delighted, and charmed all, with very fine performances ranging from classical
opera to modern popular. Shirley's rendition of the Habanera from
Carmen caused much hilarity at the expense of Bob Williams and choristers on the
front row. The choir has shared a concert platform with
Shirley and Frances before, notably on the Ireland tour earlier this year, and was especially
pleased to be able to welcome them once again.

Also taking part with the Warrington
Male Voice Choir were Harmony in Blue (the
young men's section of the choir) who sang a range of modern popular music
beautifully. Anthony Whittaker
, the choir's accompanist, enjoyed two solo spots on the Parr
Hall's famous Cavaillé-Coll
organ. Anthony's performance of Sibelius' Finlandia
and Albinoni's Adagio were spellbinding in their intensity,
and greatly enjoyed by
choristers and audience alike.

Once again, the evening would not
have been as successful without the magnificent efforts of Russell Paterson, the
choir's MD, and Bob Williams the choir's presenter. Both men ensured that things
"went with a swing".
