Warrington Male Voice ChoirChorister Aims For The TopOne of Warrington Male Voice Choir's enthusiastic younger members, David Graham, who sings in the Baritone section of the choir, plans to climb a mountain in the Lake District, this summer, along with some of his colleagues from the Environment Agency. David is seeking sponsorship for his efforts to raise funds for the charity WaterAid. David,
who also sings with Harmony in Blue, the choir's initiative for younger men,
talked to the choir's web manager about the proposed event. "I’m
interested in WaterAid as it’s the official charity of my employer, the
Environment Agency. This climb is an opportunity to raise money to help provide
practical solutions for the supply of safe water, effective sanitation and hygiene
education to the world’s poorest people. Trail 100
is a challenge to put a team of walkers
on top of 100 of Britain's best-loved peaks, between midday and 2.00 p.m. on
Saturday 6 June 2009. A few of my colleagues and I, from the Environment
Agency, will be attempting to hike up The Old Man of Coniston as part of the
Trail 100 challenge. I’ve
always enjoyed mountaineering. My climbing career reaching its ‘peak’ whilst
I was living in Tanzania in 2005. I
spent a week climbing the heights of Kilimanjaro.
This was the most physically draining thing I’ve ever done, but also
one of the most memorable, and was definitely worth the effort! I’ve been in the choir almost four years now. Before that I’d sung in various church choirs. I found out about the choir from their website, and after listening in one rehearsal I was blown away with the sound and the overall quality of the singing. Being a member of the choir has given me the opportunity to sing in some spectacular venues, both in the UK and across the Atlantic! It’s so exhilarating to sing with seventy other voices, and I would recommend it to anyone."
