Warrington Male Voice Choir's Very Own Marathon Man

Gareth Roberts

Gareth Roberts, aged 29, of Well Farm Close in Woolston, has signed up to the challenge to fulfil a lifelong ambition of running in the London Marathon, this year, taking place on the 26th April, 2009.    Gareth will be running for Action for Children (http://www.actionforchildren. org.uk/, formerly the National Children’s’ Homes, NCH) and hopes to raise £1,500.

“After I got the place I wondered whether there’s some sort of psychological thing about it as I’m 30 in May. Maybe I’m trying to get it done before that,” he said.

The former Woolston High School pupil, a member of Warrington Male Voice Choir for a number of years, has also used weight-loss as an incentive to train, and will run the Wilmslow half-marathon in March in preparation.

Gareth went on to say,

"If, in these dark days of the credit crunch, you are able to sponsor me please send me an email with your pledge and, if you are a tax payer, your home address (so that tax can be reclaimed on your donation)."

Gareth's email address is harmonyinblue@warringtonchoir.org.uk

Your sponsorship will be much appreciated for this very worthwhile cause.

How did he do?

The choir is pleased to announce that Gareth completed the London Marathon.  Gareth told us that the first fourteen miles went well, but then his feet started to feel as though they were about to explode.

"I’m not entirely sure why that happened," he said, " but I can assure you all that it hurt very much."

He fought on through the pain barrier to cross the finishing line a couple of minutes short of six hours.
