Farewell, Sheila – loyal supporter, friend and critic

To the members of Warrington Male Voice Choir, former Mayor of Warrington Cllr Sheila Woodyatt was a loyal supporter, friend – and critic over many years. Along with her late husband Neville, she regularly attended choir concerts and really enjoyed herself. However, she was also not afraid to speak up if she thought something didn’t sound or look right.

Following the Warrington bombings by the IRA in 1993, she also joined the choir on a number of the tours they made to the island of Ireland; on one occasion, when she was Mayor, buying a drink for every member of the choir after a particular concert – out of her own pocket!

Many choir members and no doubt their wives, partners, even friends will have their own memories of Sheila; she was such a part of the Choir. Warrington Male Voice Choir was lucky to be one of the many groups and organisations Sheila was involved in, or supported, and she will be greatly missed by all of us; all of them.

Sheila’s support, encouragement and enthusiasm for the Choir and its continued development was recognised by the Choir in 2014, when she was appointed a Vice-President; the presentation taking place on the stage during the ever popular Christmas Voices Christmas Brass concert at the Parr Hall, Warrington – much to Sheila’s delight.

Sheila may have gone but her thoughts, her commitment, her support, her loyalty, her comments, her laughter, her smile will never be forgotten.

God bless you, Sheila.
