Choir’s
China Connection
By
Steve Grant, WMVC Press Officer
The
start of the month’s summery weather came as a welcome relief last Saturday,
as Choir Secretary: Ian Scholes and his wife Jean, played host to an informal
garden party at their home in Orford. In the process, they made in excess of £700
for the Chinese Orphage Charity “Childhood Friends”.
The
Charity, co-founded by Warrington based Julia Hopper, has worked relentlessly to
gain access to the many thousands of children who have been abandoned into some
of the most basic and inadequate care facilities in the world. Often the product
of the Chinese policy on population control, children, many disabled, are left
without any mental stimulation for years on end. The charity aims to provide
locally based key workers, who go into the orphanages and befriend the children,
thus providing the nearest thing to family care and emotional support. The
charity does not have any administration costs taken from any of its fundraising
activities, and all donations go directly into the project.
The
Choir, through Julia’s chorister husband, Geoff, have worked with the charity
over the last couple of years with a number of fund-raising events.
If
you wish to support this very worthy charity please contact the Choir on 01925
