LIFEBOATS TO BENEFIT FROM CHOIR'S THIRD VISITWarrington Male Voice Choir, which visited the Isle of Man last July with Patron Terry Waite, is set to return later this year with the famous Wingates Brass Band to boost funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. During last year's charity visit, the choir raised £8,000 for Hospice Care and Ronald McDonald House (IOM Friends & Families) in a concert at the Villa Marina, and a further £850 towards the upkeep of St. German's Cathedral. Choir Chairman Barrie Johnson said: 'Our visit last year was very successful and we had a wonderful reception in the Island. We have received so many requests to return that we felt we had to respond. This time we shall bring with us Wingates Band, one of the UK's top championship brass bands. It should be a winning combination.' Wingates Band, formed in 1873, has been seven times World and National Champions and four times British Open Champions. Warrington Male Choir, formed in 1898, has been UK National MVC Champions and recently won at two premier Irish choral festivals. During their weekend stay, the choir and band plan to perform a gala charity concert in the Royal Hall, Villa Marina, on Saturday 30th September to benefit RNLI. The concert, appropriately titled 'For Those In Peril...' is expected to be a sell-out performance, and will be presented by the renowned Moira Anderson, who is a resident in the Isle of Man. Tickets for the event are now available from the Villa & Gaiety Box Office (tel. 694555). The Island concert will not be the first time that the Warrington Male Voice Choir and Wingates Band have performed together. They have collaborated previously in Warrington and in Bolton, performing both 'Proms' concerts and Christmas concerts. Recently they produced a joint CD recording, 'Sounding Voices Sounding Brass' which will be available when they visit, and are currently arranging a joint tour to Canada in 2007. Graeme Hall, Band Secretary, said: 'The band has an excellent working relationship with the Warrington choir and is really looking forward to performing with them in the Isle of Man. This will be the first time since 1993 that Wingates has visited the Island.' Vernon
Lightbody, Chairman of Douglas Lifeboats, added: 'We are absolutely delighted
that these two top quality groups are prepared to come across to support
us. We want the Manx public to ensure that the choir and band's charity efforts
are rewarded by giving them a full house to play to on 30th September.' _________________________________ PROGRAMME ALL National Anthem WARRINGTON MALE
