By Steve Grant WMVC Press Officer 25th August, 2006 Thank
goodness that the Choir can still attract the crowds and pull out all the stops
to fill the Parr Hall. “A
Last Night at the Proms” has proved so successful over recent years that in
order to meet audience demands, the Choir is running “two nights” this year,
with two separate programmes.
Friday
22nd September will be a “Brass Night” and will feature the
talents of Wingates Band. The band has recently joined the Choir to produce the
long awaited joint c.d “Sounding
Voices – Sounding Brass”, which will be available on the night. They will
also be on the return visit to the Isle of Man at the end of the month, in a
Gala Concert for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, hosted by Moira
Anderson. Saturday
23rd is the traditional “Last Night”, with all the usual
patriotic razzamatazz, including Jerusalem and Land of Hope & Glory. Our
guests on that occasion will be the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra, making their
first appearance with the Choir. A Choir spokesman said “The Parr Hall Concerts have always been important to us. They provide the revenue that subsidises all our charitable works throughout the rest of the year around the U.K and beyond. This year, with storm clouds forming around the venue, it is doubly important that we show the Council that there is a positive need for the maintenance of a multi-purpose entertainment centre in the town”.
